Thank-a-Prof
How Does This Work?
Do you have an instructor or professor who made you want to attend their class or who made an impact on you?
Please submit a short note to the instructors/professor who have made a difference in your education. Some students may choose to include their names and others may choose to submit their letters anonymously. CTRL will screen all the submissions and then send the note and a certificate of appreciation to the instructor (after grades have been submitted for the semester if you are currently in the course). In addition, all recipients’ names are forwarded to the Provost’s office along with selected notes.
Dr. Laurie Anne Ferguson, Nursing

Dr. Ferguson, Thank you for being such an incredible role model, mentor and advocate throughout my time at Loyola University New Orleans. You are truly a one of a kind professor and nurse practitioner. I am truly grateful for the time we spent in clinic together, our frequent emails and conversations, and the relationship that we have built.
From: Rachel Kashy, Family Nurse Practitioner/MSN, 2020
Dr. Enrique Varela, Psychological Sciences

You are such a caring professor and have honestly made my experience at Loyola amazing! It really meant a lot to me when I was missing/late a few times in a row and you made an effort to ask if everything was “Okay”and if you could help. Also it was so sweet to let my little sister sit in on a class and she really enjoyed it. The way you teach is so easy to comprehend and I feel like I’m learning so much!

Dr. Daphne Main, College of Business - Accounting

You have made learning accounting way more interesting than I could ever imagine, and you are 100% the reason that I am an accounting major.
From: Aislinn Mobley, Accounting and Finance, 2020
Dr. Elin Grissom, Psychological Sciences

Thank you for being such a helping hand over the course of my many semesters here at Loyola. Your gracious attitude and willingness to help is something that I admire in you as my advisor. My gratitude and appreciation for you is the least I can do for all the things you've done that have helped me get me to where I am now. Thank you again for everything you do for the university and for everything you've done for me in the last couple of months figuring out my degree(s). Hope all is well and many blessings to you!!
From: Luke LaCoste, Psychology Major, 2020
Dr. Jeremy Thibodeaux, Mathematical Science

Professor Thibodeaux, I have never had a math teacher like you before. You do a fantastic job of explaining why things are the way they are in calculus, and not many teachers are able to express that! You always answer questions efficiently and effectively, and you really made me enjoy math. I am so grateful I had you for this class, and I would recommend it to anyone who takes Calculus I at Loyola.

Professor Kate Duncan, Music Industry

Meaning - That's your word, Kate. I admire your constant strive for meaning, not only in what you do and teach, but also in your ability to touch every student in an individualized, personal way. It is admirable how you put an effort to get to know your students and make sure each of us know that we are special, in different, and unique ways. I kid you not! You are an inspiring professor and person. I look up to your resilience and hard work in anything you are part of. How noticeable your confidence and presence are as soon as you walk into a room are an example to me of the kind of person I strive to be someday. You are the face of Pop Comm. for a reason! Thank you for being here for us unconditionally and for giving us the support and care we needed all along. I am so, so grateful to have met you. Keep touching lives, Kate. And don't forget, we will always be your kiddos! You better have your shades on now....gotcha!
From: Laura Prado, Popular & Commercial Music Major, 2020
Dr. Drew Chastain, Philsophy

Thank you, Dr. Chastain, for what you do. I am not a huge fan of philosophy, but you created an environment that made me really enjoy your class! You engage the class in discussions and there is never a dull moment. Keep doing what you are doing, and we all appreciate you!
From: Abby Newman, Psychology Pre-Health Major, 2020
Dr. Mark Fernandez, History

Dr. Fernandez, I am so thankful for you and your class. I am on track for law school, and you have really encouraged and challenged me to reach my goal. I cannot thank you enough for you flexibility and support during the pandemic, and despite all, I was invested in your class because of how much effort you put in. I want to let you know, that we recognize how much you care about us. You not only lectured our class, but challenged us to think critically and really evaluate the information you were presenting. You are one of my favorite professors at Loyola, and you deserve this recognition.

Dr. Michelle Johnston, College of Business - Management
Professor Johnston is such an inspiration! She is a great representation of all the College of Business has to offer. Her class made me confident in my major and she encouraged only the best out of her students. Her energy and positivity radiated every time I spoke with her and she was open and honest in everything. I respect her immensely and hope to take another class of hers!
From: Farah Wells, Business Management Major, 2020
Professor Amy Thiaville, Music & Media
You have been such an amazing instructor in so many ways. Not only did I feel inspired by your constant willingness and wonderful attitude to teaching, but also through your approachable teaching style. I felt intimidated when I first started to learn the subject, but you helped me feel like I could actually learn something. This was one of my favorite classes of all time not because it was the easiest or about my favorite subject, but rather that you made me feel welcome and accepted despite my lack of prior experience. I want to thank you for inspiring me as a teacher, because the knowledge I learned goes beyond passing a test or getting grade.
